More about
Podiatry / Chiropody
Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study of, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg. Our Podiatrist/Chiropodists in Cardiff are trained to degree level and are HCPC registered (State Registered) health care professionals and members of The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. They offer a full range of podiatry and chiropody foot care treatments.
What’s the difference between a podiatrist and a chiropodist?
There’s no difference between a podiatrist and chiropodist, but podiatrist is a more modern name.
Foot conditions can be broadly split into two treatment categories:
Chiropody foot care – treatment for the following:
- Cracked heels
- Verruca
- Corns and Callous
- Ingrowing toe nails
- Fungal infections including athletes foot
- Diabetic foot conditions
- Toe nail cutting
Cardiff Podiatry foot care – treatment for the following:
- Heel pain
- Plantar fasciitis
- Flat feet
- Bunions
- Limb leg discrepancy
A variety of techniques are used to treat these conditions and you may be recommended to have a full biomechanical assessment which involves a complex evaluation of the feet, legs and body position whilst weight bearing and non-weight bearing.
The information gained from a biomechanical assessment in our Cardiff Clinic may form the basis for an orthotic prescription to help correct the cause of the problem.
Our Cardiff Chiropody appointment:
This r treatment, which is suitable for all, begins with feet being cleaned, the Podiatrist will then carry out an extensive foot health assessment and will take time to understand any concerns you have about your feet. From this assessment any foot problems are identified and appropriate treatment is carried out, which may include:
- Nail trimming and treatment of common nail problems.
- Gentle reduction of dry, callused skin and removal of corns; and
- Application of a foot moisturiser.
Finally you can discuss your future foot care needs.
For elderly patients who just need assistance with nail cutting we offer nail cutting only appointments.
